It is very difficult to give links to freedom, is'nt freedom what remains when we have dropped the links!
Of course we can speak of our links, where they come from, how to break them, some who have a very sharp sight can even give a rough image of this freedom we cannot perceive.
Software, like any human product, can be a tool to build jails or to destroy them, everything depends of our intent. More than free software what brings Richard Marie Stallman and these FSF guys is the way to use software to build freedom.
The gnu.org site and the Philosophy of the GNU Project page is a good start point, to help us to choose between freedom or power
